Procedure: Mohs

This sweet patient in her mid-50s was diagnosed with a skin cancer of her nose (basal cell carcinoma) and underwent Mohs surgery to remove it, leaving her with a large defect of her left nose. I reconstructed this defect with a locally-based flap of tissue. This provides a more natural result than bringing a skin graft into the area, and also helped to limit the scars on the patient's face. These surgeries are some of my favorite to perform. They rely on reconstructive principles of plastic surgery, which is one of the things that drew me to this field. Shown here at 3 months from surgery, the scar will continue to fade and improve over the next 9 months.
